Our company aims at deploying smart grid networks capable of optimum operation of all power sources. I will talk about the future outlook for the ICT infrastructure for electric power utilities required for deployment of the smart grid, along with our undertakings to achieve this goal.

There are various issues such as energy shortage and water shortage caused by overcrowding population, and decrepit infrastructure. Diverse functions of Smart Cities are required for each country or region. I would like to introduce the Hitachi's vision and solutions of Smart Cities, our global activities, as well as approaches for constructing eco-friendly sustainable cities that meet each region's requirements.

[Abstract]
Smart Metering is a key enabler and an integral part of the future Smart Grid. Its introduction is an important step towards a more energy-efficient society. From a technological point of view, Smart Metering drives convergence of three areas: metering technology, communications technology and information technology. This convergence stimulates technological innovation as well as the creation of new business models. This keynote addresses lessons learned from recent Smart Metering deployments, global (technology) trends as well as opportunities for future innovative solutions.

Branko Bjelajac is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Landis + Gyr, the global leader in smart metering, since 2007. He is responsible for technology strategy, global alignment of research and development priorities, processes and resources as well as quality management. Before joining Landis + Gyr, he has held executive positions in R&D, Marketing, Business Development and Corporate Strategy at several telecommunications and consumer electronics companies such as Mannesmann (now Vodafone), Grundig, SITA and Orange (the mobile networks division of France Telecom). Dr. Bjelajac holds a diploma degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Belgrade, Serbia, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and IT from Aachen University of Technology, Germany. He gained executive qualifications from INSEAD (France), IMD (Switzerland) and the Stanford University ? Graduate School of Business (USA).
